The Sky is Crazy- Must Read

after 6 years i finally read the sky is crazy after putting it off for so long. when the book first came out to rave reviews i made a mental note to get it the next time i was at the store. but everytime i went, some other book would have caught my fancy and i would buy it instead and forget all about this book. a few days ago i was at borders getting a gift for a dear friend when i saw this book. again i had found another book which i wanted but after some deliberation, i decided to get the sky is crazy. and boy did i love it.

the book is written by a former stewardess (Yvonne Lee) who has since clipped her wings. her book tells of the hi's and lo's she goes thru in dealing with her job. i can closely relate to this book. growing up with a pilot father and an ex-stewardess mother i have heard countless stories which left my jaw hanging open at the absurdity of it all. from stories of ghostly passangers to those who got knocked on the head with a tray by a stewardess who was pushed over the edge and the time my mom was showered by the vomit of a passenger.

I loved hearing these stories. when my dad came home, esp from long flights like LA, we would all gather in the kitchen and await the bag opening ceremony, a much anticipated event akin to opening a treasure chest. we would wait with abated breath to see if he got us that jeans or top or handbag and the many bottles of victorias secret bottles that us girls would jostle over only to have mum swoop down n go 'ill take that thank u'. and dont even get me started on the chocolates! i loved the many types of m&ms he wud bring home in large bags that wud make a dentist cry. but my fav chocs came from frankfurt in germany. when he comes home from frankfurt i wud be the first to greet his bag him at the door and greedily sweetly offer to carry his super heavy luggage into the house and proceed to open his bag n get 1st pick of EVERYTHING! HA HA HA (cue cruella laugh)

and thr were those times when i was younger when i still qualified for the family tickets when we wud get free first class tix to anywhere in the world. i dont anymore but i vividly remember the time wen i stil did. it was luxury beyond compare for me, who really, if it wasnt for my dad wud never be able to afford such luxurious and expensive tix. return first class tix to london cost 25thousand. that is enough to pay for a down payment of a house. or half a car! and it was heaven. as soon as u boarded the aircraft, u r offered a drink (juices, champage, anything u like) then ur offered a selection of mags from all over the work, and wen i say all over the world, i mean all over the world. u hv ur harpers bazaar us, vogue italia, womens weekly from msia to nz to australia, O mag from south africa, hello uk, and a lot of business mag i have no interest or understanding in.

after take off and the seatbelt sign has been turned off, the crew starts their 1st meal service, wafts of delicious aroma wud escape the galley curtains and my tummy (which was full prior to take off) wud start rumbling. MAS's signature dish is their satay. n lemme tell u. u have not tasted satay till uve had MAS'. it is THE best i have ever had. BESTest EVER! after satay they wud bring about some soup. then it was my FAV part. the CAVIAR. i hv only ever eaten caviar on board coz i cannot afford it myself. the best quality ones can cost up to 200 USD a teaspoon. yes, teaspoon. they dont come cheap bt taste oh so good. well theyre basically cured fish eggs n some people cannot stand the fishy taste but for that price, id lick the bowl clean.

i have travelled coach (thats all i travel now! haha) and am quite accustomed to the meal trays whr everything is wrapped in foil n plastic, dont even get me started on the plastic cutleries. but in first class, the only thing plastic are the smiles worn by the stewardess who are tired and sleepy and really wish they were doing anything but serving u. mains wud b more luxurious food items like lobsters and fillet mignon steaks. i once had steak for bfast. apparently in some parts of the world they have breakfast steaks in the morning. i cud live with that everyday.

and the best part is when u get tired, one of the crew members will come over to ur place and turn ur seat into a bed. complete with bed covers n all. and the blankets they give, are dawn feathers, so sedap (available for purchase at MYR 268 ok). and! u have a foot rest that can come to u with the push of a button. like itll be half a metre away from u n u push the button n it will come like a good puppy. and can also be turned into a seat for ur companion shud u wish to have dinner togather. oh man!! i miss all that!! i gotta get rich.. oh n they also provide pyjamas for u to sleep in so ur clothes dont get crumpled. the jammies look like uniforms worn by mental hospital patients but lets not go thr...

Those foot stool will come to u like a good puppy at the touch of a button

Best sleeping spot at 35 000 feet in the air

i miss being young and getting free rides... n xpayah isi minyak coz ur not working n ur dad isi for u all d time... and not having to pay for meals.. oh how things have changed.. bt im thankful to have a secure job.. alhamdulillah..

ill get to telling u guy the ghost story later later on okie! have a good weekend peeps!

Tim's Nuts

so yesterday i uploaded a pic of a cake on fb. a cake that jj n i were in the process of pigging out on. when i say pigging out on. i mean- we had just picked it up from the bakers house and we were parked at a corner about 10 feet away from whr we pick it up and i found a diposable fork and spoon in the car which cakbina had been playing with days earlier. and we very ceremoniously digged in. and it was soooo good.. so so good. its a peanut butter banana cake. with layers of chocolate cake and fresh cream and peanut butter cream and bananas and topped with a dark chocolate ganache. OH EM GEE.. it was sooo good. this coming from me- who repel banana's. so not a fan!

eating a whole uncut cake with a fork out of the box was liberating.. it actually is something i had wanted to do for the longest time. i kno i kno. im embarassing like that but i saw a cake ad once whr this bunch of girls were eating this huge cake sans cake plates. just them and a fork. digging in to heavenly goodness. i wanted to do that too!! and jj was kind (glutton) enough to go along. so that was how we ended up on the curb eating a whole 8 inch cake to ourselves. and cake never tasted this good. i kid u not. u have to try it. put it on ur (bucket) list. now i can scratch it off mine :)

the cake is seriously good. i got it from fatboybakes. this cake we got is also known as Tim's Nuts, the cake comprises a choc biscuit base, a layer of peanut butter cream, bananas, fresh cream, chocolate cake and chocolate ganache. RM75 (approx 1.4kg)

Make me up make up man!

theres an old wives tale that if u have a bad dream, u have to tell it to people so it wouldnt happen. kn?? ke jgn tell? i think its tell.. so im telling!!

I have had this recurring nightmare it like 5-6 times since my merisik. its always in different situations but always the same horrible thing. it'll be my wedding day, and everyone will be busy doing wedding stuff, ill be in my wedding dress.... and my make up artist doesnt show up and i look all splotchy from crying over my missing make up artist and my hair is a tangled mess nobody can fix. i always wake up with my heart beating fast. everytime. and i would doa to god to pls pls pls let thr be no problems with my make up artist- for all three occasions.

a fren of mine once said. it doesnt matter how shabby a wedding is, but a bride must always stand out from everyone else. and i agree wholeheartedly. other then our life after marriage, what im really looking forward to is me getting all dolled up on our wedding day. i mean when else wud i get away with THAT much make up?? ok other then reading but that doesnt make me look pretty and princessy

but these nightmares are evil. i guess my subconscious is telling me that in my head, my make up artist is about as important as the juru-nikah. i hope hope hope all the horror stories i have heard of brides looking horrible on their wedding day and of make up artists calling in sick stay just as what they are- a bad dream.

Chicken with mushrooms and cream

ish this blogspot moodswings blowing hot n cold really irks me out. kjap2 ok kjp2 tak. kjap2 ticker kt atas kjp2 ticket kt bwh kjp2 ticker hilang terus. dont even get me started on the layout thats all over the place!! haih!

anyways! i cannot wait to get home today!! i have been wanting to make this chicken with mushroom and cream for-EVER but always seem to forget! wen i remember to buy fresh button mushrooms, i forget about the dish and make sauteed mushrooms with scrambled eggs instead. or cook it with butter and garlic n eat it with rolls. mmm... yummm... eh eh! focus focus!

ever since i saw amy adams preparing this dish in julie & julia i was hooked! butter! cream! mushrooms! chicken! wats not to love!?! i CANNOT wait to get home and get started! i even contemplated cancelling my tuition class today- bad teacher! then i remembered she has an exam tomorrow..

wen im cooking something, i actually get more excited about making the dish then actually eating it!- ok my rear end may give u an impression otherwise but i also eat out a lot so yeah. i dont eat much when i cook. unless its spaghetti. janna and spaghetti is a dangerous dangerous combo. i actully get up in the middle of the nite to go tinkle and get cravings. at like 3am. and i actully layan this crazy cravings. so id b raiding the fridge at 3am and eating a bowl of spag bol in front of the telly before falling asleep 10 mins later. hows that for unhealthy lifestyle!

so anyway! yes! i love the process of making something!! the going to the supermarket to pick up fresh ingredients! and cutting n slicing and zesting! i love zesting lemons for cakes! i love making lemon cakes coz i cannot get enough of the smell!! i never use lemon essences in my cakes- only the natural zest! i love it! eventho i have zested my fingers and hands along so many times i still love doing it! so worth the battle wounds!

i love love love cooking for people! and i live for the moment their eyes lite up n they go mmmmmmm!!! yummm!!!! yes yes i do like having my ego rubbed every now and then bt who doesnt eyh?

eh btw pls watch julie & julia if u havent yet. if that doesnt bring out the kitchen goddess in u then u def are a lot cause. i can get fat just by watching that. the cravings u get watching her create heavenly goodness out of pounds n pounds of butter is so wrong it has to be right! am i making sense? i cannot live without butter either. butter and garlic make up a huge part of my life- and my a**. i only watched it once, and went on a crazy cooking spree later. am afraid to watch it again.

so i cant wait to get home tonite! were gona have a little cooking date at home. im quite territorial when im in the kitchen- an issue im working on. hope the chicken doesnt come out pink!

this is the dish im talking about. are u drooling yet?

That little person

yesterday we took my beloved niece out for dinner. or rather, she forced us to.

i was beyond tired lastnite and wanted nothing but a quiet uneventful dinner and an early bedtime. this little person was dressed in her jammies when she saw me putting on a pair of jeans. she went 'nk pkai sluar'. i pointed to her pink jammie bottoms n sed 'na kn dah ade pants'. then she spilled water on her shirt and made a big fuss about the wet patch, asking me to get her a new top. i picked a sleep shirt for her, which she refused to wear, picking instead a levi's tshirt. i told her it was almost bedtime and that she should wear more comfy clothes. she insisted- very persistent dis girl, wonder whr she gets it from.

once i put the shirt on her, she ran to my mom and sed 'grandmama!! salam!!' and proceeded to salam my mom n went 'ok bye grandmama!!', looked at me and went 'ok jom!'

had no choice but to lug her with me. then at dinner, we were served by a man who was more on the feminine side and who had a liberal amount of make up on, making him (her) look white as a sheet. she-man shall i say? my body went stiff wen i heard the little person so innocently say 'eeee... takut... ape tu.. TAKUTT??' all the while pointing to this nice waiter (tress)'s face. I W-A-N-T-E-D T-O D-I-E! i looked over the table at jj who was looking down hard at the table, any harder n he'd probably tilt it over with telekinesis powers.

ive posted this video of her on my fb. enjoy!

p/s: blogspot seems to be a bit cuckoo since yesterday kn?

Old parrot

So my sister took her daughter out to the store to buy her formula the other day. in the car, this litte toddler started singing 'burung kakak tua'. she was singing out loud, confidently making a remix of burung kakak tua with the ibu song. so it went like, buruuuuun kakaaaaak tuaaaa!! hinggap ibuuuuuuuu ibuuuuuuuu, aku sudaaaah tuaaaa... u get the gist. kak in was laughing her head off in the car. her laughter turned to appologies and snorts of laughter when they went into the store and that little girl, thinking kakak tua was in fact just kakak, went up to a lady and went- 'hi kakak tua!'

Lina's Bridal Shower

Last weekend we had a bridal shower for a dear dear friend of mine- Lina. She's a spunky lass n keeping such a big secret from her was difficult for me, esp since i see her almost everyday for lunch. i had to keep reminding myself not to say anything that would give any indication of the party. alas, our efforts in keeping mum was wasted wen sumone dcided it would be better if the bride knew of our plans. haish! despite all the drama, i had crazy fun. went home with half my sanity intact and a voice that was going due to the shouting n screaming playing charades (my all time fav game!)- peppered with karaoke sessions. it was great as we were just a small bunch of close frens so singing our hearts out didnt render the occasional throws of rotten vegetables like it would have had we been singing to strangers.

lina's sister made her this little tutu that was so cute and she was twirling around like a loon and 'combing' the strands of net ribbon that made up the skirt. the theme was pink, white and black. and we had sum pretty fun games and we ate n ate and ate. i think most people went home with a full stomach and memories to last a lifetime. i know i did

preperations were done just the week before via FB je ok! we were discussing themes and such on fb throwing ideas back and forth and finally came up with somthing everyone could agree on. not as easy feat when u consider how many hard heads were at work here :)

some people voluntereed to prep sum stuff. her sisters did the deco and gift bags while i did the food. and burnt my hands in 3 places in the oven- lina are u reading this?? please capture ok. ahhaah!- the lenghts i go thru to feed the people i love...

we ended the day with a 'prize giving' ceremony ala kerajaan dpt award with lina handing out our goodie bags. i loved it! in keeping with the black white n pink theme, we were each given a reusable grocery bag- which i personally love coz i collect them in a bid to save the enviroment and to make up for all the hairsprays and air conditioners i use. inside thrs a clock from ikea that has been personalized by her sister in law n is so cute! with a lacey pink doilly in the middle and a small crown on the number 1. complete with jewels on the crown. cuteness overload!! and thr are sum chocs and a cute sewing kit tin and a glass with sleeves custom made by her sister.

i hope the blushing bride to be had as much fun as i did. i had fun cooking for the party eventho i burned my hand in three spot- did i mention this? lina are u capturing this??

Enjoy the photos that i conveniently stole from the bride to be's fb

System's down- again...

I have found my wedding song. The perfect song. I have listen to it over and over and over again but it never gets boring. i especially love the piano beginning. i can imagine us walking into the hall while the beautiful music plays... i berangan that moment every morning in my car on the way to work wen i play the song over n over again. i kno its the perfect song coz despite having listened to it every single day for the past 3 months, i still get goosebumps when i hear it.

im still thinking of a song for our nikah montage tho... u kno the one they'll play at the reception. i love the slo mo parts like when the bride kisses her mom n sheds a tear or two. so sad. i cry watching wedding montage of people i dont kno. like at the office, ill be on youtube watching all these videos of strangers getting married and ill b crying like a loon staring at my laptop. ok pecah lobang- i shudnt b watching vids at the ofc. boss? ur not reading this rite? well u shudnt be- get back to work! eceh

so yeay dah ade perfect wedding song!! now i need to come up with a dress design.... and wedding favours... ok system is up n running again- bummer. back to work!
